2004 Calera Mt. Harlan Cuvee $22

Josh Jenson is the lone producer in the Mt. Harlan appellation and apparently the only Californian growing pinot in limestone soil. Having had the pure and clean 2004 Ryan Vineyard a little while back I was curious how his 2004 Mt. Harlan cuvee would compare. This one is exactly where you would expect it to be. Fruity notes of strawberry, cherry, ruby red grapefruit and plum that follow onto the palate with nice smooth tannins on the finish. J.W.

1998 Domaine Lecheneaut Morey St. Denis $25

This would be my introduction to Morey Saint Denis. My first impression was that it reminded me of Pommard. Earthy and meaty with a dark brick color. When doing a little research on this AOC, I found common attributes to be expressiveness and finesse but experienced only the former. It had a little cherry fruit on the nose and in the mouth but overall dominated by clove, roasted meats, and forest floor that are nicely developed.. Smooth tannins and a long finish. Drank this bottle with pan roasted salmon and sauteed vegetables. 13% Alcohol. J.W.

2002 Siduri Central Coast $35

Dark crimson red color with dark chocolate, black raspberry, bing cherry, orange zest, and fig on the nose. An earthy underbrush bouquet probably due to age. This one is dried out and past its peak. I actually liked it but would have loved to taste about 2 years ago. Interesting how earthy and burgundian it got with its stemmy tannins. 14.4% Alcohol. J.W.
