2005 Burgundy

If there were ever a time to be buying burgundy, now is definitely that time. I've had so many good bottles from the '05 vintage (and I'm talking about the regional and village wines). The great thing is they are all good wines from all levels and some are priced very well. The '05 Louis Latour Nuits St. Georges ($39) is a fine example and the Joseph Drouhin Cote de Beaune Village ($24) is a real treat. I would imagine that the 05's can hold up really well to careful cellaring and in 10 to 15 years people who bought up will have fantastic bottles. I notice that most '03 regional and village reds are very extracted and show very good fruit with the '04s carrying a green, stemmy, herbal character and a bit on the lighter side but with more perfume than the '03s. So far the '05s have been the best of both worlds. They have great fruit, mouth watering acidity, beautiful perfumed noses and a long, persistent, clean finish. Mmmmmmmmm Burgundy.
