Coming to Grips with Wine Prices

Ok, so you would like to collect wine but found out in order to participate you have to shell out a lot of cash for that case of boutique California pinot you fell in love with. Now your searching for things in your garage to sell on ebay just to keep up with the bids you've placed on Wine bid. Well, I have to say it's too much fun searching for interesting, old bottles on that site and to add fuel to the fire, my experience with purchasing older bottles on the site have been pretty good. I recently won a bottle of 1998 Archery Summit Estate pinot for $35 and it was delicious. A bottle which scored 93 points from Wine Spectator and sold for $10 more on release in 2001. If you look and do a little research you can find some real gems. I have noticed that a lot of wine prices are jacked up on wine bid when Robert Parker scores them high, but Parker always scores all wines higher than everybody else, so I would stay away from wines that he scores really high and take an average of the scores. It's a good thing Parker doesn't "get" burgundy! Lets hope he doesn't any time soon.
