An exciting lush and full flavored single vineyard pinot from Santa Lucia Highlands. The concise and complex fruit-packed flavors are smooth and not in any way overpowering. Typical pinot fruit flavors with ruby red grapefruit and welches grape soda wrapped around a core of jammy black fruits. Sweet tannins. 14.5% Alcohol. Crimson color with brown tinges. This bottle was delicious. J.W.

2005 Tandem Sangiacomo Vineyards Sonoma Coast $39

A friend of mine had been telling me about this producer for a few months now and I was happy to finally get to try a Tandem pinot. Dark cherry and strawberry on the nose with raspberry, cherry, chocolate and underbrush on the palate. The wine has plenty of stuffing but seems to be flat with no real focus or aromatics to speak of. Not very impressed with this one but could balance out in a year or so. 14.2% Alcohol. J.W.

2004 Calera Ryan Vineyard $40

A pinot with beautiful floral and intense strawberry jam aromas. The nose alone is great but the mouth feel is even better. Extremely polished and balanced with candy like fruit flavors and a touch of spicy clove. A real delight to drink with pork. Finishes silky smooth and clean. 14% Alcohol. J.W.

Ruby red colored and plenty of sweet, ripe tannins. This pinot has all the goods if your looking for a simple, inexpensive expression of Oregon pinot noir. Black cherry and raspberry flavors and a long full finish. I've had the 2005 a few times and this vintage seems a little more concentrated. Good to buy in bulk and have on hand for the weeknights. Screwcap. 13.5% Alcohol. J.W.
